The extranet was originally developed for West Yorkshire Police to ensure enough policing resources were available to cover events throughout the region in the fairest way possible across its nine policing divisions. This was then utilised and developed for one of the largest food and beverage production plants in Europe to help meet aggressive lean enterprise objectives. eleventeenth has successfully turned a host of manually-managed spreadsheets into a modern, secure and permission-access based application which has optimised the plant’s usage of staff resource.

Four years since its creation, the platform has been continually developed as the needs of the clients using it have evolved, in order to meet their labour planning and data sharing needs throughout the business. Now the new eleventeenth platform can provide instant online visibility of staff deployment and availability, effectively matching the right skills to the right jobs and shifts in real time, resulting in minimal disruption and preventing stoppages of the production line and providing a suite of detailed and valuable reporting.

As the software has such a high impact on efficiency, one of the major benefits experienced by existing clients are significant cost savings. One client has reported a 30% saving from its agency labour spend in 2009. By improving workforce flexibility to maintain line up-time and maximise the usage of available labour, this in turn increases workforce transparency to all levels of the business; from line managers to Financial Directors managing the labour budgets.

The software is the most efficient way of managing shifts, sickness, overtime and other staffing issues such as skills and training. This transparency means that there is a lesser need for agency or temporary workers, as the staffing levels can be managed more effectively using the internal staff available. Workers’ Unions have also supported this system as it provides a more formal template for the requirements of a workforce to achieve Best Operational Practice (BOP) – from the adequate number of people performing tasks on a line, to ensuring a first aider is present with valid certifications.

When eleventeenth, which has 10 years experience of working with Blue Chip companies, was approached by the learning and development manager at Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) to develop a package to increase flexibility of the plant’s workforce; eleventeenth rose to this challenge. The new system is installed in their biggest production plant and providing significant cost savings for that plant. CCE is now rolling this out through other Coca-Cola production sites.
